PR: The story starts with the aforementioneted "perfume" that through the story changes, ranging from citrus to rot, granma's special.
At first I wasn't sure "a place where the sweet air of flowers was mixed with that of death." and simply assumed that he was in a public restroom where someone had sprayed some room spray, when a bed shows up later I assume he's on his house and that he pulled the same trick to hide the dirty laundry and it's not until the very end that it's revealed he's on his grandma house.
I don't know why Micheal chose to wait that long, I do know that he tries to hard in making this foreboding ambiance where even the fireplace is hostile, it reads as such "the fireplace, remaining as it did unlit, its mouth bathed in night." "It at once sounded natural and yet felt unnatural" "an equally unappealing nighttime noise", but all this "effort" only makes the story feels strangly dreamy and hard to believe.
It's also all very cliché, the monster's first on the bed under the sheets, then on the wardrobe, and finally standing up still under the sheets like some kid on hallowing and cheap parents.
I lost it when the "psychological horror" kicked in and it's revealed that MC got raped by his grandma, hahaha. Sorry it's just, your grandma raped you? What? Then she wasn't trying to kill you just now?
